Man, the locals at OBX really love OBX. So many vanity plates and decals sporting the letters OBX.

OBX is a serious contender for my favorite place out east. There's a lot to love about North Carolina. Really feeling the vibe of this area.

My wife spent like 3 hours on the beach with Bennett today, looking for seashells. As I approached her, she came running up to me looking like what you see in the photo 😂. She was so dang excited to find a fully intact conch shell in the water, and got soaked going in after it.
A local ice cream shop in Roanoke sold me an ice cream cone with Cheez Its sprinkled on-top. It was too weird to not try. Salty + sweet almost always works, and this is no exception.

Woke up this morning to a lot of wind outside. Turns out, a tiny sand bar off the coast of North Carolina is quite windy this time of year. Yet another moment where this area reminds me of our visit to Elephant Butte, New Mexico, even though it is way on the other end of the country.

I think my favorite thing about OBX is that it's all one road lol. Directions are super easy, and I'm directionally challenged 😅
We have made it to the outer banks, where for the next two weeks we will call home. The campsite takes up about 2/3rds of the total width of the island where we're parked(!)
There's so, so much history in this region of the US, and I'm so excited to dig in!
Today's a travel day. We're leaving Virginia Beach and going south again for a bit. We discovered that our seasonal in Vermont wasn't going to be available for another month so we decided to buy some time on the outer banks 😁.
